Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 come under the category of polyunsaturated fats. Essential Fatty Acids are a part in each and every cell in our body and also provide energy. These type of fats are considered as unhealthy fats and the excess intake may rise the cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.

Trans Fats:

These fats are chemically engineered at extreme temperatures and similar to a metal catalyst like nickel. Some trans fats look like liquid and preserve their structure for long periods of time. This is the reason why fast food chains can cook foodstuff in the same oil for long period. FDA recommends to control the trans fat and replace the trans fat with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, if possible. According to the new label laws, food companies have to list the amount of trans fats on the labels of their products.

Some tips from the doctor:

i) It is better to increase the volume of Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.

ii) You have to control the intake of saturated fats.

iii) Control the trans fat intake and always look at the label mentioning the volume of trans fat before using any food products.
